Junior Year Timeline
- Attend the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce College Fair.
CCHS will take the entire Senior class to the College Fair scheduled for Monday, October 5 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Wheeling Jesuit University.
- Take the PSAT in October.
All Juniors will be administered the PSAT (Preliminary to the SAT) Wednesday, October 14 during periods 1-4 at CCHS. There is a $13 fee. Letters have been sent home. Students have been given preparation booklets with a full-length practice test. This test is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. For more information on this test you may visit www.collegeboard.com. This testing will help you prepare for the SAT, which we strongly encourage you to take later in the academic year.
- Administration of West Virginia Northern Community College Placement Testing.
Those Juniors considering taking college courses at WVNCC their senior year, will take the ASSET test to determine participation in this dual credit program. The initial testing will take place in early February and a retest, if necessary, in late February. You may take the ASSET twice in an attempt to earn the qualifying score for participation in the program. Those who earn a qualifying score will be registered for the college courses of their choice in April. Those who do not earn the qualifying score after testing twice with the ASSET may try for placement in the college courses with their ACT and/or SAT scores. Please call the college placement office for details on the qualifying ASSET score vs the qualifying ACT and/or SAT score.
- Research colleges/universities on line and visit with Admissions Representatives in the College Placement Office. (see college/univeristy rep visit schedule page)
College/University Representatives will be visiting CCHS from September through November. Listen closely to the CPO's daily announcements to participate in these valuable one on one visits with Admissions Representatives. It is a great experience and a great way to practice for college interviews. Also, listen for information on College/University open houses and community service and volunteer opportunities. Visit the websites of the colleges/universities you are considering.
- Start a list of Colleges/Universities that interest you and plan to visit.
Listen to CPO announcements for College/University Open House information. Also, when you are visiting the websites of various colleges, sign up to be on their mailing list. This way you will get invites to Open Houses sent to your home. Visit www.collegeboard.com to do college searches by entering criteria you are looking for in a college and then generating a list of colleges based on that criteria.
- Plan your spring testing schedule.
The College Placement Office recommends Juniors begin taking ACT and SAT in the second semester of the academic year. Please refer to the ACT & SAT Testing schedule for a complete listing of ACT and SAT dates and registration deadlines. You can get registration materials in the CPO or register online for the ACT by visiting www.actstudent.org and register for the SAT by visiting www.collegeboard.com.
