SOC211-212 America in the World I (Year) - Requirement
Renaissance to 1865
This course covers the Age of Exploration through the American Civil War with emphasis on America's development in relationship with the world. Topics include: European explorations, the American Revolution, the Constitution, the War of 1812, the Western movement, and the American Civil War. This course provides students with the understanding of how past events have created the world in which they live.

SOC221-222 America in the World II (Year) - Requirement
1865 to present
This course covers the Reconstruction Period after the Civil War to the present. Emphasis is placed on America's development in the world. This course provides students with an understanding of the technological, social, and political changes in the United States and in the world during the 20th Century and how these changes affect the modern world.

SOC229 World Geography (Year)
This course covers the fields of cultural and physical geography and cartography. Students study physical features of an area as well as the relationship between the people of a region and their environment. Students also make and study maps of the continents, countries, and regions of the world.

SOC231-232 World History (Year) - Requirement
This course covers the history of the world beginning with the dawn of civilization and ending with the transition to the 19th century. It combines historical events and geographical facts with social, political, economic, and cultural developments of western civilization. The course is designed to help students appreciate and understand the people and achievements of the various cultural regions of the world. It also provides students with an understanding of how past events directly affect the modern world.

SOC239 20th Century Dictators (Junior-Senior / Semester)
This course is an in-depth study of dictators and tyrants of the twentieth century, their rise to power, and the consequences of their leadership. Students study how today's governments must learn to work together to safeguard the population of the world community.

SOC242 Sociology (Year)
This course focuses on human relationships, social behavior, and how individuals can be successful in society. It gives students the understanding they need to solve problems, to improve relationships with family, friends, and schoolmates, to be responsible citizens, and to be productive in their lives.

SOC244 Cartography (Semester)
This course offers hands-on experience in map-making. Students learn how to read and make maps using a variety of tools and techniques. Map-making includes their local environment as well as countries, continents, and regions of the world. Students also learn to read road maps and give directions.

SOC247 US since 1945 (Senior / Year)
This course provides an in-depth look at America's problems, successes, and programs since the end of World War II. Topics include: the Cold War, the Korean conflict, the Vietnam era, the American political system, racial issues, the Persian Gulf War, and current events.
